For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fairly uncomfortable in social situations. As an anxious overthinker, people pleasing has always been a priority. Women intimidate me and I tend to have more guy friends than girlfriends. People came to ME for advice and loyalty. But internally, I’m a lone wolf. I joined A Motivating Love after a coworker, Lisa, introduced me to Daphne. I observed for a while, taking it all in and reading the room. What I gathered was unexpected: These women have each other’s backs. I don’t think I’m alone in saying navigating female relationships can be scary. But I started to engage in the conversation and then, something crazy happened... I was validated. My ideas were valued and my input was praised. Have you ever felt accepted and appreciated by a group of women? It’s empowering. A Motivating Love meetings are fun and eye opening. I’ve observed how true leadership functions in a volunteer organization. I challenged myself to participate and was quickly welcomed into the team. To be mentored by these successful women has helped me grow into who I want to be. I’ve found courage to act on my beliefs and move towards my goals. They’ve taught me what true friendship looks like, what honesty and vulnerability are and how to set boundaries. Additionally, they understand the importance of balancing hard work and personal time/mental health. I’ve loved working with Lisa in an informal way, she is so reliable and silly. Seeing Daphne as the strong, free-spirited woman she is, has been inspiring. Javelle’s wisdom is a lesson everyone should hear and Jenny’s open mind and heart are magnetic. To say I’ve grown amongst these women would be an understatement. I now have a pack to refer to for advice and loyalty and I feel more confident when meeting other women. We are here to support each other and grow together. We don’t have to be alone and I thank A Motivating Love for that. I can be myself here and cannot wait to continue to build relationships with the rest of the team and those who want to join the pack. Thank you for sharing! And definitely not alone in the many feelings mentioned. It feels good to be around a group of women who are more supportive than competitive.
